Bright red, radiant blue: with just two intense colours, a pulsating night scene is created on the canvas. Energetic, rough brushstrokes determine the electric mood of the dancing crowd. With his fierce painting, Middendorf is one of the most important representatives of the so-called New Wilds in the 1980s, whose imminent formal language echoed Expressionism from the beginning of the 20th century. "Electric Night" embodies the attitude to life of a generation whose alternative music scene was an important vehicle of self-expression, allowing the individual to disappear into the anonymous mass of revelers.
