About the Work
Painting enters the space: the work of Tobias Rehberger stands at the interface between painting and sculpture. The organically formed aluminium body has four clearly defined sides, which the artist has painted partly in grey and the rest in strong colours. He dissolves the aesthetic codes of our everyday world and translates them into an artistic context. This work references design and advertising, but also has a comic-book look to it, an impression backed up by the speech bubble. But instead of a comic-book character to speak the words in the balloon, there are only drops of water flowing out and leaving a puddle on the museum floor. This makes for an all-too-human association - but in a museum context could also be interpreted as a provocation.
